Hello!
So the weekend of June 15th, my friend Lisa and I took a road trip up to Führt. Führt is this small, thousand year old city about two hours north of Munich. It is right next to Nürnberg, like really close (they share a subway system). Lisa was born and raised in Führt, and her mother still lives there so we were able to stay with her Mother for the weekend. Yay!
Führt is an absolutely gorgeous, if tiny, little city. It, like Nürnberg, did not experience the extensive bombing that plagued German cities in World War 2. It was so cool to walk through the Altstadt, or the old part of the city, and then the Innenstadt. It was so charming. We ate dinner at this little cafe-bistro on Saturday night. Because the weather was so lovely, we were able to sit out on the square that the Cafe sat on.

| A random street is Nürnberg. So old, so beautiful |
Saturday itself we spent exploring the Altstadt of Nürnberg. Nürnberg is much larger, and just as old. It was an important city through the middle ages and in the early part of what would become German history. I thought it was beautiful. We spent hours walking around, and finding ourselves in these peaceful little city squares that looked like they could walk right out of an old black and white movie with a really nostalgic soundtrack. While we were in Nürnberg I tried Lebkuchen (which is really traditional there) and I did not like it. I also tried Nürnberg Bratwursts and Macarons which were both really good. Lisa was horrified that I did not like the Lebkuchen. Personally, I like my dessert without dried fruit bits in the middle.

On Sunday, Führt had a marathon. St. Paul, the protestant church that my friends attend, has volunteers that man the first refreshment station. We set up the tables, and filled up numerless cups of water, cola, and Iso (which is like gatorade). Lisa and I took one of the water tables, because when you are handing cups of liquid to running people who do not stop, it can get a little messy. Water at the very least does not leave you stained and sticky. Ask me how I know.
When the last of the participants in the shorter run were through, we got to enjoy the Festival that the church puts on. I ate plenty of cake, and of course more bratwurts.
They also taught me some Frankish German. The beauty of Germany is of course that they do not necessarily have accents, but dialects. Dialects are completely different and unwieldy beasts. They can also be a lot of fun! So I spent the whole weekend trying to pronounce these Frankish words along with Eichhörnchen (German for squirrel) which is one of the hardest words for Americans to pronounce correctly. But I got one over on my friends with rural!
